Caring for Country - Conjola and Bendalong

6th April 2024

Over the last few weeks our extended Caring for Country crew has been working around Conjola and Bendalong on a Wildlife Habitat project with Habitat Innovation Management ecologists.

Activities our combined crews have worked on include installing nest boxes and wildlife dens with cameras to document wildlife movements, small mammals trapping, putting down some sand pads in corridors to monitor for feral animal indicators, as well as the possibility of tracking local endemic species, weed removal and endemic species seed gathering. We will be finishing this project next week on planting our areas that will assist in erosion control and protecting areas for weed encroachment and creating habitat.

Our crews have thoroughly enjoyed working together and will look at further projects in the future. Our crew have also enjoyed the interaction with local residents they have come across. We will have a gathering with locals in the near future to share information on what we do. What makes our coastline so special and unique is the plants, animals and landscape that supports these species. The protection of these values is intrinsically linked to our culture and intrinsically linked to everyone's health and wellbeing.
