Gumbaralarng Nursery funding secured

23rd December 2024
Some good news to finish the year. We are very happy to announce that we have secured funding for Gumbaralarng nursery for the next 12 months. This includes recruiting a Business Development Manager, a supervisor and horticultural traineeships which include on-country practical work to protect and preserve Country. There is also a special role embedded for elders to hand knowledge of Country on.
We would like to take the opportunity to thank the following agencies and businesses that have assisted through the stages of getting Gumbaralarng to operational stage:

  • The Commonwealth Government
  • NSW Government especially Local Land Services and Regional NSW
  • Southern Water Vicool
  • 18fifty3
  • Jimmy’s plumbing
  • Cleary Bros
  • The Foundation for National Parks and Wildlife
  • Bunnings
Through a combination of grants, donations and hard work we have overcome challenges that frankly should not have been an issue for a project this important. A special thank you to our dedicated Ranger team. Your knowledge of Country and its species is invaluable to protecting and preserving Country. Without your dedication, Gumbaralarng would not be where it is now.
Of course Gumbaralarng will be a work in progress in the coming years, with works to come now funding is secured including signage, installation of a disability spec toilet, some car parking spaces, lighting improvements and soft landscaping.
As by the looks of the aerial photo the nursery is designed for scale-up and we have rainwater catchment off our sheds and our medical centre of approximately 108 thousand litres. Our aim is to run operations sustainably including solar panels in the future. This project is a legacy project, with intergenerational benefits and long-term outcomes.
We will notify community once we open recruitment. We will also have an upcoming open day event and a celebration day for community.
